Can you believe Mumbai city that was Gifted to Britain?

The biggest city in India. a commercial hub. It is notable for being the world's second most populous city.

This is Mumbai, the city. Is it possible to accept that Britain received this metropolis as a gift? You have to have faith that there is no other option.

The goddess "Mumba Devi" is the source of the name "Mumbai."
The word "Ai" in Marathi means "mother." Mumbai was known as 'Mumba Amma' in Marathi. After capturing Mumbai in the sixteenth century, the Portuguese gave it the name "Bombay." "Bom" is the Portuguese word for "good." Bay signifies gulf. The good bay was known as "Pompei."

Mumbai is comprised of seven islands. Of these seven islands—Mumbai, Parel, Machakau, Magim, Colaba, Worli, and Old Woman—Mumbai is the largest. The city has a rich cultural past. Mumbai was controlled by Ashoka, the Magadha ruler.

In 150 AD, the Greek geographer Pthalamia dubbed it 'the cluster of seven islands' (Heptanesia). Mumbai was then controlled by numerous kings. The islands were seized by the Muslim rulers of Gujarat in the year 1348 AD. In or around 1494 AD,

After that it was heavily affected by pirates. In this situation, on 24 December 1534 AD, the Portuguese settlement also took place. They were then forced to sign a basin agreement. Accordingly, the 7 islands and the nearby town of Strataga were given to the Portuguese. They were interested in spreading Roman Catholicism there. They built many churches for that.

In this situation, Charles II of England and Catherine of Braganza, daughter of King John IV of Portugal, were married in May 1661 AD. In which these 7 islands were given as a dowry by the King of Portugal to Charles. This is how Mumbai came into British hands.

The islands were put up for auction by the British East India Company on March 27, 1668 AD, by Royal Bill. The population grew quickly, from 10,000 in 1661 AD to 60,000 in 1675 AD. In 1687 AD, the British East India Company moved its headquarters from Surat to Mumbai, which later became the capital of the Bombay Presidency.

After that, Bombay was made the capital of all India corporations. In 1869 AD, the Suez Canal opened, making Bombay one of the largest seaports on the Arabian Sea. From that point on, the city's growth has continued unabated.
