Last days of Dr. Rajendra Prasad
Last days of Dr. Rajendra Prasad
Dr. Rajendra Prasad, The country's first President, had to pay a heavy price for the Somnath temple:
It is well known that Jawaharlal Nehru was not in favor of the reconstruction of the Somnath temple. Sardar Patel started the work of rebuilding the Somnath temple. After Patel's death, the responsibility of the temple fell on KM Munshi. Munshi was a minister in the Nehru cabinet. Opposition to Nehru intensified after Patel's death. He reprimands Munshi in a meeting. He was also accused of promoting Hindu revivalism and Hindutva. But Munshi had made it clear that he would not leave Sardar Patel's work unfinished.
K.M. Munshi was also a Gujarati and died after building the Somnath temple. He then invited the first President of the country Dr. Rajendra Prasad to inaugurate the temple. He accepted this invitation with great pride, but when Jawaharlal Nehru came to know about it, he was furious. Somnath refused to go and wrote to Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Rajendra Prasad became tensed. Ignoring Nehru's words, Somnath went and delivered his speech. Jawaharlal Nehru was shocked by this. His ego was bruised. He accepted it as his defeat. Dr. Rajendra Prasad going to Somnath was very bad because the way Nehru treated him is amazing.
Because of the Somnath temple, the relationship between Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Jawaharlal Nehru was so bitter that when Rajendra Prasad was released from the presidency, Nehru did not even give him a house in Delhi. Rajendra Prasad liked to write books while living in Delhi. But Nehru did him injustice. A former president was supposed to be respected and his right was taken away.
Eventually, Dr. Rajendra Prasad had to return to Patna. Even in Patna he does not have his own house. No money. Although there were many government bungalows and houses in Patna, Nehru did not give him any house.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad finally started living in a wet room at the Sathak Ashram in Patna. No caretaker, no doctor. His health began to deteriorate. He was suffering from asthma. He continued to cough throughout the day. Now even a former president is in such a plight that he cannot beg for help. But, after Rajendra Prasad's arrival in Patna, Nehru never tried to know the condition of the country's first President?
Besides this, when Dr. Rajendra Prasad's health deteriorated, no one bothered to give him good treatment. At that time Congress was in power in Bihar. Dr. Rajendra Prasad did not get good health facilities till the end. He was treated very carelessly. As if it is happening on someone's instructions. He was suffering a lot from cough. Patna Medical College had his Cough Cure Machine. He was also sent to Delhi. That means complete and solid arrangements were made to kill Rajendra Prasad.
Once Jai Prakash Narayan reached Sathak Ashram to meet him. He wanted to see how the country's first President and Speaker of the Constituent Assembly lived. JP was shocked to see his condition. Eyes wet. He didn't know what to say. JP immediately asked his colleagues to make it livable. But Rajendra Prasad, who was staying in the same room, died on 28 February 1963.
Even after the death of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Nehru's heart did not waver. His indifference did not end. Nehru did not even attend his funeral. Nehru went to Jaipur on the day of his last visit. Apart from this, Rajasthan Governor Dr. Sampoornanand wanted to go to Patna but Nehru refused to allow him to go there. When Nehru learned that Sampoornanand ji wanted to go to Patna, he asked Sampoornanand how the prime minister of the country would come to a state whose governor had disappeared from there. After this Dr. Sampoornanand canceled the plan to go to Patna.
Not only this, Dr. S. as the successor of Nehru, Rajendra Prasad. Radhakrishnan also advised not to go to Patna. But Radhakrishnan, who did not listen to Nehru, came to Patna to attend Rajendra Babu's funeral.
